Duty (as local authority) to improve, promote and protect public health and to carry out the functions specified.

Power appoint environmental health officers and officers as necessary.

Duties (as local authority where requisition is issued), to submit detailed proposal for sanitary works within timeframe; and to carry out work in accordance with proposal as approved by the Director-General. 

Power and duty to appoint 1 or more environment health officers with the prescribed qualifications or as required by the Director-General.

Duty (as local authority) to do works necessary to abate a nuisance in circumstances described; Powers and duties (as local authority) re selling or disposing of all materials removed; recovery of costs; application of proceeds/any surplus as specified. 

Determine that immediate action for the abatement of the nuisance is necessary by reason of the existence of a nuisance on any premises and without notice to the occupier, enter on the premses and abate the nuisance.

Powers (as local authority), to serve order on owner/occupier, requiring that their premises be cleansed in circumstances described; or to cleanse the premises in circumstances described. 

Powers and duties when directed by the Director-General (as local authority) to serve a notice requiring repairs on the owner of the premises as prescribed; and where notice is not complied with. 

Duty (as local authority) to cancel closing order when works have been satisfactorily carried out. 

Determine any application to carry on an offensive trade, register or renew the registration of any premises used for an offensive trade.

Power (as local authority) to appeal to the Minister in circumstances described. 

Determine any application to establish a stockyard, register or renew the registration of any premises used for a stockyard.

Duty (as local authority) to recommend the appointment of one of the assessors to the Board of Appeal in the circumstances specified. 

Duty (as local authority) to cease to supply or permit the use of any source of water supply in the circumstances specified. 

Apply for injunction where continuing breach of Bylaw following conviction

Duty (as local authority) to send copy of all proposed bylaws to the Medical Officer of Health as prescribed.

Power (as local authority) to authorise an Environmental Health Officer to enter premises.

Duty (as local authority) to cleanse and disinfect premises in circumstances described. 

Destroy articles that cannot be effectively disinfected.

Powers and duties (as local authority) re burial of body in the circumstances specified. 

Duty (as local authority) to pay the compensation to person injuriously affected by destruction of building/animal/thing in the circumstances specified. 

Power (as local authority) to authorise persons to enter and inspect/execute works for the purposes of the Act.

Power (as territorial authority/local authority), where any money declared to be a charge on any land by the Act, to register the charge under the Statutory Land Charges Registration Act 1928;
